The big thing in Saint Petersburg was having the chance to participate at such important city’s international jazz festival.
I arrived to the city in a late night flight, and got to the hostel at 5 am on already Wednesday 25th. Club 33, is kind of my home in St. Petersburg, not only for knowing its owner Sergey but also because the common area is perfectly for me to work doing computer stuff from time to time.
I was only a bit worried about not having a piano to rehearse before the date of the festival, which was after 2 days, but the programme was already well practiced.
I was expected to be the opening act after some words form the presenter and so it was, after the easiest soundcheck (just pulling the volume up), I was playing the piano for the about 600 people that got early to the festival, some delays in the soundchek also helped, so I can say in terms of attendance and attention it was great.
There was also a dancer, Katya, who danced (improvised) 2 of the 8 songs I played, which made the show more engaging.
I got interviewed by the city’s TV channel (TV St. Petersburg) and everything was filmed with multiple cameras so hopefully I’ll have more material to share soon!
