“Piano Tango” is a project that comes to life in the least planned way. 3 weeks ago, I was on holidays in Madrid and I get a call saying it was possible to play in a piano-solo format, as an openning act, at the Petrojazz Festival in Saint Petersburg. I was going to Saint Petersburg for my very good friend’s birthday, Ilya, thanks to whom Violentour was possible in Russia last year. I was always very thankful for his efforts toward having Tangel Trio playing in multiple cities with very last minute arrangements, so that I offered him playing ‘a piece or two..’, for what he replied that the offer was only for a 30-minute show, and that even a group of dancers would participate to make the show more visual, for what I should send the recordings as soon as possible.
By then not only I didn’t even know what to play but also had nothing to send, I wasn’t even at home..
I came back to Barcelona, and started arranging 30 minutes of tango music, from traditional ones to the Astor Piazzolla style.
“Piano Tango” was recorded in a single afternoon, mixed the next day and duplicated 50 copies of it at home in another afternoon. The result feels as fresh as its conception.
I have to thank the unvaluable help of Flavia who had the idea of using seals for stamping the CD and cover designs, and helped me to make all of them in a single day.
Here you can listen my arrangement of Adiós Nonino, track 8 of Piano Tango, I used the image of that same music score my father brought home for me to study it, when I was 12 years old.
