It was during last year’s performance with Tangel Trio in the city of Omsk, Russia, where we were surprised about a Tango dancing academy coming to listen to our concert and whom also danced many of the songs we played. From 40 concerts we did, this only happened to us in Siberia, in the cities of Omsk and Irkutsk. And in Omsk was by then the very first time for what we were really surprised.
Once the concert finished we went talk to this great audience we had and ended up going on a short city tour by car with 3 of our guests and later singing “Por una cabeza” together at the only open bar, a karaoke bar.
That was the beginning of my friendship with Alina, a classic guitar player who loves tango music and plays with her quintet the music of Piazzolla and other tango classics.
When I knew I was going to perform in Ekaterinburg, a city not really far from Omsk if we consider Russian distances, I contacted her to test waters for a possible concert together in Omsk. Incredibly, everything got arranged by her within days.
On August 22nd we’ll be playing together at a local venue where they have a nice piano, for which I’m preparing the repertoire. Today we’ll have our first rehearsal!
