A latino in Ecuador

I arrived to the city of Guayaquil on the night of October 8th, finally the first Spanish speaking country after a long time. My friends JC and Bernardo picked me up there with a six pack of beers to refresh and get used to the tropical weather.
I stayed at my friend’s place, a beautiful and spacious house where I could work and even play the piano and guitar.
During my stay JC took me on city tours all around Guayaquil, and I also tried their delicious food, and my very favorite: ceviche. Also I met his very good friends, great people as all ecuatoreans I’ve come across with.
We went together with him and a friend to Olon and Montañita, the beach side of the country, where although the weather was not good I enjoyed the beach and even got into the sea for the first time in the year (yes, I live in Barcelona but I never go to the beach..). In Montañita I also met Guillermo, after more than 12 years, a colleage from primary school who moved there and now runs a successful hotel. Guillermo was also great company during the next 2 days that I decided to stay by myself.
When coming back to Guayaquil I played on a very last-minute arrangement at Diva Nicotina, a place in the historic district where great musicians like Charly García played once.
I also met with Bernardo to review together some Tangel Trio’s Violentour material that we’ll be releasing in the next months.
In general I save great memories from Ecuador, a place where you can find from iguanas to all kinds of fruits growing in street trees, giant Galapagos tortoises, and lots of local jokes and smiles.
Now it’s time to keep going South..
